Easy When You Know How is the dynamic debut album from trombonist Pieter-Gerrit Binkhorst, known artistically as BINK. This soulful, groovy production showcases a vibrant mix of original compositions that blend jazz, funk, and soul, influenced by legends like Quincy Jones, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Stevie Wonder. BINK, who is also a renowned auctioneer in his daily life, brings his deep passion for music to life with catchy, danceable tracks featuring rich brass arrangements and powerful vocals.
The album enlists the talents of exceptional vocalists including Simone Roerade, Laura Vane (UK), and Lodewijk van Gorp, backed by a stellar brass section led by Rolf Delfos. The big band “Licks & Brains,” who also plays on the album, adds an explosive energy, rounding out the rich, full sound that defines BINK’s musical vision.
Drawing inspiration from both his artistic profession and personal experiences, BINK’s compositions are infused with love, passion, and a raw, sometimes sensual edge. The track Do with My Love is a perfect example, featuring an emotionally charged duet between Lodewijk van Gorp and Laura Vane. With themes of romance and intensity running through his work, BINK’s music transports listeners to a place where emotion and groove meet.
Having spent four years crafting and refining this project with producer and musical partner Roeland Jacobs, BINK’s dream of becoming the “Quincy Jones” of his own album has come to fruition. Easy When You Know How is a testament to BINK’s journey, a labor of love that shows off his mastery of the trombone and his ability to bring together diverse musical talents into a seamless, exciting whole.
